Since Battle at the Barn last fall, Call Security, a band comprised of HWS students, has popped up at various events across campus. Since its founding last year, the band has performed in many different venues, even opening for the Passion Pit last Spring. They also performed at the Arts and Social Changes’ Halloween Party, the Community Service House twice, and at Chi Phi Fraternity parties. Call Security has now taken another step and recorded their first EP.

Call Security recently started recording at Subcat Studios in Syracuse, NY. Their recordings so far consist of 6 original songs that they think their listeners will respond to and enjoy. Lead vocalist Ben Scheibel is “very excited to get our music out there to have something tangible that people can take with them and listen to.”

The original members of Call Security are Michelle Poulin on the guitar, Tucker Jennings on the drums, and Scheibel. The band has since added Kathryn Middleton on the keyboard and Peter Keller on the bass guitar. The members of the band are diverse in terms of class year and style as well as have varied taste in music. Scheibel remarks that “The only [music] we seem to find common ground on is the music that we create.” As a result of the different musical styles, this ‘Alternative Pop Rock’ band’s music can span genres. According to Scheibel, the band has been told that they have some songs that have a “Mumford and Sons feel” and others that resemble “Grouplove and Neon Trees.”

Call Security’s popularity among student has steadily grown. While the    events that the band play at are normally packed wall-to-wall with people—screaming and dancing to the upbeat tunes— Call Security hopes to expand their audience.

Eventually, Call Security wishes to record a full album filled with many originals. Although Call Security loves playing shows for its fellow students because of the great amount of support and energy, they would also like to extend their music to an audience beyond HWS. Call Security is always open to putting together sets for shows and would welcome playing more events in the future.
